Explore your study options

As experts in how human cultures interact, anthropologists make invaluable contributions to business, government and non-governmental agencies. At Deakin, you can study anthropology from an arts or international relations perspective or combine it with another discipline to enhance your career options.

Undergraduate

Undergraduate (your first degree)

A Deakin undergraduate course is the foundation of your future career, usually completed in two to four years. Duration varies based on degree type, enrolment pattern and any credit received from recognition of prior learning.

Research

Higher Degrees by Research (supervised research)

Research degrees are research based master’s or PhD programs that focus on a single area of expertise. They provide students the opportunity to carry out highly specialised research under expert supervision.

Choose a degree that will get you work ready

Anthropologists bring a set of critical human-understanding tools to a variety of industries. These skills are highly desired by employers in people-oriented industries like education, healthcare and international development.

Cross-disciplinary skills

Deakin anthropology courses include units in law and justice, technology, communications and medical anthropology. This allows you to focus your energies on the career path you want to pursue.

Work experience

As a major or paired with another discipline in a double degree, Deakin’s anthropology degrees offer the opportunity to enhance your employability through work-integrated learning. You can also choose from options for international study and internships.

Professional recognition

Graduates of an honours-level anthropology course are eligible for membership to the Australian Anthropological Society. This recognises your sound understanding of issues, theories and methods associated with anthropology as a social science discipline.
