Research topic
This is a doctoral cotutelle project between Deakin University (Australia) and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras).
We are offering 30 PhD scholarships available for eligible candidates in science, engineering, technology, climate change, energy advanced manufacturing, AI and machine learning, and many more.

These projects and scholarships are offered as part of a collaborative doctoral cotutelle program between Deakin University (Australia) and IIT Madras (India). The successful candidates will be jointly supervised by a team of leading researchers from Deakin University and IIT Madras and will graduate with a jointly supervised doctoral degree from each institution. The program is for a duration of 3 years and scheduled to commence in July to November 2025.
This is a fully funded program in which students will spend 2 - 3 years in their home institution and one year in the host institution. You can choose if you prefer to start at Deakin (Australia) or IIT Madras (India), however please note Australian citizens must start at Deakin, and Indian citizens must start at IIT Madras.

Benefits
For Deakin home candidates (start at Deakin, spend one year in IIT Madras):
- Stipend of $35,500 per annum tax exempt (2025 rate)
- Relocation allowance of up to $5000 for travel between Melbourne (Australia) and Chennai (India) inclusive of flights, visa and overseas travel insurance
Tuition fees offset for the duration of 4 years.
For IIT Madras home candidates (start in IIT madras, spend one year at Deakin):
- Monthly stipend of ₹37,000* in first year, followed by ₹42,000* in years 3 and 4
- Annual stipend $35,500 tax exempt (2025 rate) in the second year at Deakin (Australia)
- Relocation allowance of up to $5000 for travel between Melbourne (Australia) and Chennai (India) inclusive of flights, visa and overseas travel insurance
- Tuition Fees to be paid at IIT Madras for the duration of the study; the Deakin tuition fee is waived.
