This project seeks to investigate and reframe international education and student mobility in a changing geopolitical context.
Project aim
This project aims to investigate how international education and international student mobility have changed in response to the changing geopolitical context. It addresses the nature, circumstances and forms of the impacts of geopolitics and socio-political contexts on international education relationships.
This topic is of strategic benefits to Deakin given the university’s strong commitment to strengthening its global engagement, learning abroad, internationalisation of the student experience, and support for international students, as demonstrated in its Guiding Globalisation Plan. The proposed PhD topic aligns closely with the Research for Educational Impact (REDI)’s program: Education, Governance and Policy for Sustainable Societies. The project also has potential significant benefits to Australia as international education is Australia’s largest services export, creating 250,000 jobs to Australians and substantially subsidising Australian universities’ operation and research.
