Achieving with Autism - Student Support Scholarship

Deakin’s Faculty of Business and Law is proud to offer the Achieving with Autism, Student Support Scholarship. This scholarship is provided in partnership with WISE Employment.

This scholarship continues throughout a complete undergraduate degree from the Faculty of Business and Law and strives to enhance Deakin University’s current support systems to make higher education accessible to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Benefits

This scholarship is unique in that the recipient will be provided with one-to-one support worker assistance for each of the units that they undertake.

Valued at up to $12,000 per year for the normal course duration.

Eligibility criteria

Prospective candidates should ensure they meet all criteria before submitting their application.

To be eligible you must:

  • be registered with WISE Employment
  • have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • be an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
  • not have already completed a bachelor degree
  • be enrolled full time unless there are circumstances preventing full-time study
  • be commencing the first year of your degree in Trimester 1 2025
  • be enrolled in one of the following bachelor’s degree in a Commonwealth supported place (CSP) in the Faculty of Business and Law*
    • Bachelor of Business
    • Bachelor of Business Analytics
    • Bachelor of Business (Sport Management)
    • Bachelor of Commerce
    • Bachelor of Human Resource Management (Psychology)
    • Bachelor of Laws
    • Bachelor of Marketing (Psychology)
    • Bachelor of Property and Real Estate
    • Bachelor of Sport Development

*Before submitting your scholarship application, make sure you apply to Deakin to complete a Faculty of Business and Law undergraduate bachelor’s degree (single award; listed above). Check the eligibility criteria carefully to ensure you are eligible to study at Deakin in the course of your choice.

Conditions

As a scholarship recipient you will be expected to:

    • work with a support worker
    • connect with all Deakin support services e.g. Disability Resource Center, NAVIGATE program
    • try your best to succeed at University, including both academically and as part of an overall student experience
    • inform WISE and Deakin of each study period’s enrolment and of any changes to enrolment as soon as possible (e.g. reducing study load, withdrawal from unit, a requirement to repeat a unit of study)
    • provide feedback on the scholarship and your Deakin experience when requested at end of first study period, and the end of first academic year of study.

Your application

Supporting documents

As part of the application process, you will also be required to attach supporting documentation that is current, relevant and concise.

When you apply for this scholarship, you'll need to supply the following:

    • evidence of your disability (i.e. Autism diagnosis) - you need to provide a letter from your doctor that confirms your diagnosis and indicates the level of impact your disability has had/will have on your studies
    • evidence of your connection with WISE Employment - you need to provide a letter from a representative of WISE Employment that details your previous and current involvement with their organisation

    Applications submitted without the required supporting documentation will not be considered.

What happens next

Your application will be assessed and ranked based on the information you provide in your responses to the medical statement, career plans and aspirations, the steps you will take to support yourself during your studies, and how the scholarship can help.

The supporting documentation will also be used to assess your application. Applications submitted without the required supporting documentation will not be considered.

All applicants will be advised of the outcome of your application within four weeks of the closing date above via the email address nominated within your application.

  • Trimester 1 2026 (early-November 2025 to mid-January 2026)
