Tell us about your study abroad experience.

During our first week, we had the chance to explore the city of Da Nang, but the most memorable experience was the visit to Hoi Ann, where we took part in a lantern-making class as well as exploring the markets, and local food for the next couple of hours before having a dinner with the host team. The best part was that we were left alone to explore the markets by our host team, which gave the experience a whole vacation/touristy vibe where we interacted with locals.

A normal day would start at around 6.30 for me, I would wake up – disturbing my roommate in the process (sorry Mohammed), get ready, and then get a ride-sharing bike to my office. It would be a 15-minute bike ride after which, I would be at the FPT office until 5 pm. After getting back home, I would usually freshen up and wait for the rest of my peers to come back from their internship and we would usually go out, sometimes bowling but mostly to a pub.

How did you decide which study abroad program to do and what is your advice for students who are thinking about studying abroad?

My decision for the opportunity was mostly based on two factors: International and Internship, filtering out based on these criteria I was left with the IT internship in Vietnam only, and it turned out to be such a fruitful experience.

One solid piece of advice for any potential study abroad students would be to make the most out of your pre-departure sessions and ask any questions they have. These not only helped clear our worries but also boosted our confidence when we departed. Connecting with peers traveling from Deakin before is also a huge plus.

What motivated you to travel further as an international student?

My main inspiration to travel and pursue this opportunity was my love for the field of tech and more specifically AI. I had already seen the bloom and development of these fields in two countries, Pakistan & Australia, but the prospect of familiarising myself with how one of the biggest tech conglomerates in Vietnam – FPT – is dealing with such change and how the tech landscape of Vietnam is changing due to this field was a very attractive notion.
