PlacementPULSE

PlacementPULSE is a new way for mentors (or schools and centres on their behalf) to provide feedback on a Pre-Service Teacher's performance and progress. Mentors can provide PlacementPULSE feedback as many times as they like, at any point during a placement.

PlacementPULSE is NOT to be submitted by a Pre-Service Teacher.

Please note that PlacementPULSE should not be used for a Pre-Service Teacher's end-of-placement assessment. To complete a Placement Report, please use the link provided in the confirmation email sent to your School/Centre PST Coordinator prior to placement commencing.

Mid-placement PULSE check-in

From Trimester 1, 2025, the School of Education is introducing a mid-placement PULSE check-in to provide structured feedback on a PST’s progress at the halfway point of their placement. This will be a staggered release across 2025.

The mid-placement PULSE check-in will:

  • Allow mentors to reflect on a PST’s development so far.
  • Provide an opportunity to flag early successes or concerns that may impact the remainder of the placement.
  • Ensure that any necessary support strategies are identified and actioned in a timely manner.

Traffic light colour system

PlacementPULSE uses a traffic light colour system: green, yellow and red.

Based on the colour you select, Deakin will review your PlacementPULSE feedback and determine the most appropriate course of action.

Submit green if the student is learning and improving at an expected pace. Yellow and red are only for students at risk of not passing.

Mentors, please refer to the Confirmation of Placement Details email or the Mid-Placement Check-In email for a PULSE link. Please do not share the link with PSTs.

(note - the Professional Experience Office may contact you to seek further clarification).

Yellow

I have concerns about the Pre-Service Teacher’s progress and ability to complete a successful placement.

The PST may be experiencing challenges, such as adjusting to the teaching environment, responding inconsistently to feedback, or needing additional guidance.

The PST is at risk of not meeting one or more standards on the report.

The PST requires additional support to successfully complete the placement.

A Deakin University representative will be in touch within three business days.

Red

I have serious concerns requiring immediate attention.

I am requesting immediate intervention from a Deakin University representative.

I have serious concerns about a PST's wellbeing, conduct, professionalism, or other.

A Deakin University representative will contact you as soon as possible.

Please note: submitting PlacementPULSE feedback does not impact the Pre-Service Teacher’s placement results or replace the completion of their Placement Report.
