Report a scam
If you have been targeted by a scam, you must immediately report it. The faster you do, the easier it will be for Deakin or other authorities to minimise the damage, recoup any lost information or funds, and attempt to identify the party responsible.
You can report a scam to the following places:
- Mark phishing emails using the 'Report' button so Digital Services can block the email for other staff and students.
- Email spam@deakin.edu.au to report any other suspicious emails you receive to your Deakin account. Suspicious emails are to be forwarded as an attachment to spam@deakin.edu.au, so that it contains all headers etc. This will allow the IT team to investigate the email if necessary.
- If you receive a suspicious text message or phone call, you can report it online to Scamwatch and to the Australian Cyber Security Centre website.
- Report any fraudulent phone calls or text messages that mention Deakin to IT Help at Deakin.
- If you suspect you have lost or are about to lose money to a scam, you should follow these steps straight away as well as contact your bank.
