Student support services

Here is information and links to a comprehensive range of student support services across Deakin. These are the most commonly accessed resources but you can contact Student Central if you need something not listed here.

Academic support services

Access the free academic support services and resources to help you develop key academic skills and strategies to maximise your chances of study success.

Counselling

Deakin’s experienced psychologists and social workers offer free and confidential counselling support to all students located in Australia.

DeakinACTIVE

Stay healthy in mind and body! DeakinACTIVE is a health and fitness gym, located on Deakin campuses. Membership with DeakinACTIVE can include access to the gym, group fitness classes, personal training and court hire.

DeakinTALENT

Deakin's Careers and Employment Service provides a wide range of services to students and graduates include career coaching, career education within the curriculum, career success workshops, cohort-based talent development programs, career resources, employer events and the Jobs & Internships board. Extra support is available if you feel you are facing barriers to employment.

DUSA

The Deakin University Student Association (DUSA) is run by students for students. DUSA offers clubs, events, support, access to free essential food and grocery items, as well as an advocacy service for help with navigating university policies and procedures (you do not need to be a DUSA member to access advocacy services).

Financial hardship

If you are facing financial hardship, Deakin can help with interest-free loans, grants, vouchers for essentials, and more.

Library support

Expert help is on hand at the library to help with getting started, finding, using and referencing material, booking quiet study spaces and everything in between.

Medical Centres

Accessible and confidential medical services on all campuses for students provided by qualified and experienced medical doctors and nurses. Vaccinations, health and wellness coaching, and even physiotherapy appointments at the Burwood campus.

NIKERI

The NIKERI Institute enables Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians the flexibility to access higher education while maintaining their family, work and community commitments. Tutorial services, scholarships, counselling and help with travel are just some of the services offered to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Peer Mentoring

Learn about the range of peer mentoring programs that offer guidance and advice from experienced students. Faculty mentor programs, as well as Maths and Writing Mentors and the ever-popular Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) offer opportunities to get academic support while forming friendships and building connections.

Safer Community

A free, confidential support service for those who experience concerning, threatening, inappropriate or uncomfortable behaviour. If you have experienced these behaviours, please contact the Safer Community team, who can provide advice/consultation, internal/external referrals and make recommendations for misconduct sanctions.

Wellbeing at Deakin

Deakin Wellbeing focuses on four key dimensions of wellbeing: mental health, physical health, relationships and studies. Explore a range of activities, services and tips on offer to care for yourself, engage with others and improve overall wellbeing. We definitely recommend downloading the DeakinWELLBEING app to help you develop better ways to manage stress, improve your resilience and build healthy habits.
