Ezi Magbegor

Deakin student and WNBL Melbourne Boomers star Eziyoda Magbegor plays against the best female basketballers in the world. Ezi was selected with pick #12 by the Seattle Storm at the 2019 WNBA draft and was a member of the Australian Women's basketball team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Since arriving at the Deakin Boomers Ezi has dominated, winning Betty Watson Rookie of the Year in 2017/18, averaging 6.6 points a game and 3.8 rebounds. Ezi more recently took her game to the next level, averaging 8.7 points and 4.3 rebounds a game in 2018/19.

Ezi has also played a vital role in the recent success of the Women’s Nationals Basketball team, the Opals, where they claimed the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and silver at the FIBA World Cup.

At the Deakin Sport Awards in 2018, Ezi was recognised for her contribution to the Opals at the Commonwealth Games and received a Deakin Full Blue Sports Award – Deakin Students are awarded a Full Blue Sports Award when they represent Australia in sport.

Fitting everything in with her busy basketball schedule, Ezi is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin's Burwood Campus. She is also a member of Deakin's Elite Athlete Program which is offered to professional athletes to support them through their studies.

All of us at Deakin wish Ezi all the best and will be following her journey closely.
