We welcome everyone

At Deakin, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive, diverse and respectful community. Wherever you come from, however you identify, we welcome you. Every member of the Deakin community has a role to play in living our values, including you.

We offer a range of services and LGBTIQ+ inclusion spaces to support our diverse student community, and we invite you to uphold our values with us by engaging with the spaces applicable to you, as well as sharing them with your peers.

  • We are committed to Reconciliation and Treaty, advancing the educational aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and moving Indigenous Knowledges into the mainstream of Australian life. All our endeavours aim to reflect Australia’s full history and seek to build an inclusive future.
  • Deakin recognises our LGBTIQ+ students and staff. If you identify as a member of this community or want to show your support as an ally, you can get involved with our LGBTIQ+ Community. We also offer queer rooms – places for you to relax, socialise and study in a welcoming, supportive environment – as well as all-gender toilets. Keep an eye out for our rainbow signage, visual reminders that you are in a LGBTIQ+ friendly environment.
  • Places of worship are situated at our Burwood, Waurn Ponds and Waterfront campuses. They are available to all students and staff, regardless of religious belief. They offer a quiet and peaceful environment for you to take time for personal reflection or practise your faith. We also have multi-faith chaplains on staff who you can speak with for spiritual support.
