Understanding important dates
At the start of each new study period, it’s important to look at how it is structured and become aware of the milestones and deadlines that will affect you.
As a new student commencing your first period of study, these are some of the dates you should mark in your diary and calendar:
- Orientation events.
- When unit sites open.
- The date to select your campus timetable in STAR.
- Week 1 (when classes start).
- The last date you can add a unit to the study period.
- The census date (the last date to finalise aspects of your enrolment, particularly withdrawing from units to avoid incurring the full fee).
- When the exam timetable is released.
- Dates for end-of-unit assessments, exam periods, and results release.
- The end of the teaching period, University holidays and any University closure dates.
You can view all the key dates, deadlines and University calendars on our important dates webpage, and the 2024 Trimester dates here.
A quick and easy way to make sure you are aware of all the important dates relevant to you is to add your university calendar to your Deakin email.
