Plan your course

Plan your course

After you have paid your fees and activated your Deakin account, it is time to plan your course so you can enrol for the first time.

The Handbook and your course map

The University Handbook is the official source of information on your course and the units that Deakin is offering in a particular year. Generally, you need to follow the course rules in the Handbook for the year you commenced your course. You can view your course entry below:

M761A Master of Business Analytics

S735A Master of Cyber Security (Professional)

Your course entry includes your course map, a visual tool that can help you understand the structure of your course. Your course map will help you determine which units you need to study and when, and the rules for completing your course. You will also receive a personalised course map by email.

It is important to understand the course rules and requirements specific to your course. GIFT City students are required to undertake a full-time study load and are not permitted to enrol in online units without approval. For more information on enrolments codes and terminology, visit our A-Z of university terminology page.

Pre-enrolled and elective units

For your first year of study, some of your units may already pre-enrolled for you. You may also need to select some electives.

Both M761A and S735A will have units pre-enrolled for 2024. This means that they will automatically appear when you enrol for the first time.

If you are a M761A student, you do not have any electives in your first trimester of study. You have a recommended elective in your second trimester of study.

If you are a S735A student, you will need to select two electives in Trimester 2, 2024. SIT178 Real World Analytics is a recommended elective. An additional elective can be selected based on offerings at GIFT City. Your electives are listed in your course map, or you can use the ‘Advanced unit search’ function in the Handbook (choose the ‘Unit Level’ as 7 and ‘Location’ as GIFT City Campus).

Zero credit point modules

DAI001 – Academic Integrity Module is a compulsory zero credit point module in all Deakin courses. The module's learning and assessment activities allow students to develop knowledge, skills, and good practice principles to understand the importance of maintaining academic integrity in their studies and career, and to avoid breaching academic integrity standards.

You are required to complete this unit in your first trimester and it appears in StudentConnect as pre-enrolled for you to ‘confirm’. There is no associated unit fee. As it does not have a credit point value, it does not contribute to your enrolment load, but it is required to meet your course requirements.

Students in S735A should also complete STP710 – Career Tools for Employability in their first trimester of study. This introductory unit is required for you to undertake and internship or placement in your second year of studies. Like DAI001, this unit does not contribute to your enrolment load or have a unit fee, but it is necessary for your course progression.
