THRIVE: wellbeing and study success sessions

This program offers practical tips for you to explore, with the aim of keeping you engaged and motivated to look after your own wellbeing.

The objectives of THRIVE are:

  • to foster and build a sense of belonging to make students feel welcome in the Deakin community
  • to support students in establishing their own learning strategies for academic success
  • to build motivation and deepen desire for learning
  • to develop self-awareness and encourage access to support services when needed
  • to promote student engagement in university activities and events.

Session 1

THRIVE: Improve your wellbeing

Pick up simple and practical tips on how you can improve your wellbeing while studying at Deakin. We'll familiarise you with the PERMA model and how you can cultivate an environment that promotes your wellness.

THRIVE: Achieving your study goals

Increase your chances of success by developing your own personalised goals and reflecting on what you want to achieve at Deakin. In this session you'll learn how to apply the most useful predictors of success to help you reach your study goals, develop self-efficacy and take control of your learning journey.

THRIVE: Take control of your time management

Do you have a good routine for managing your work/study/life responsibilities? In this session, we'll discuss how you can develop efficient time management skills including identifying your priorities and allocating resources to manage your time more effectively.

THRIVE: Keep your motivation firing

What drives you to achieve your study goals? Learn more about the psychological principles of self determination theory and how to stay motivated throughout your student journey.

THRIVE: Overcoming procrastination

Understand the emotions behind why we procrastinate on tasks and how you can overcome this counterproductive habit. This session will also cover reflective practice and identifying when to ask for support when you need help.

THRIVE: Strategies for managing anxiety and stress

Beat any end-of-trimester worries by understanding external and internal factors that can induce stress and anxiety. We'll explain how you can differentiate the difference between stress and anxiety, and discuss emotion and problem-focused coping.

THRIVE: Enhance your resilience and avoid burnout

Learn how you can strengthen your resilience and develop a growth mindset to persevere through the more difficult times of studying at university. By attending this session, you'll understand how to leverage your strengths to overcome challenges.

Learn the science and strategies behind how active listening and memory works to improve your learning outcomes. The session will also cover how you can overcome barriers that prevent you from engaging fully in the university experience.
