Faculty prizes and awards
Naomi and Isi Leibler Prize
A prize of $500 for the best MA or PhD thesis approved during the previous year in the area of Social Sciences.
Philip Brown Award
A prize of $3000 is awarded annually to an enrolled higher degree by research student within the Faculty of Arts and Education, for research into Australian History entailing the use of primary sources. Where possible, preference will be given to research relating to the state of Victoria. The award is named in memory of Dr Philip Brown, an eminent historian whose work is characterised by meticulous research and the extensive use of primary sources.
Roslyn Lawry Award
This award commemorates a young Museum Studies graduate, Ros Lawry, who died in tragic circumstances. Her parents, Jim and Fay Lawry, established an endowment for an annual prize. The Roslyn Lawry Award is awarded annually to a student enrolled in the Master of Cultural Heritage who has achieved standards of excellence in his or her academic record and demonstrated a personal commitment to heritage/museum training. The recipient receives a generous cheque to fund further professional development and a framed certificate.
Lynne Alice Prize
The prize of $500 is awarded annually by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences to a student enrolled in the Master of Arts (International Relations) course who has achieved standards of excellence in his or her academic record in the Human Rights and International Law specialisation.
The Politics Student Prize
This prize is awarded by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences for the best postgraduate essay.
The course coordinator for the postgraduate program will ask two colleagues each year to join a panel to read the best postgraduate essays. When the panel has decided on a shortlist, the essays will be sent to a prominent person for their opinion on which is best. The recipient of this prize will receive a book voucher and a certificate.
School of Education
Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL)
This prize is awarded annually to a student enrolled in an Education postgraduate course who has illustrated excellence in educational leadership. The prize includes:
- A professional, framed ACEL Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Educational Leadership
- A membership subscription for one year to the value of $175
- A book voucher valued at $100, redeemable from the ACEL Bookshop

The Victoria College Foundation
This fund was initially set up to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Victoria College, just before it merged with Deakin University. The prize is to be awarded to a PhD student who just missed out on a scholarship. The aim of the Victoria College prize is to support a postgraduate student to study towards a Masters or Doctoral degree. The amount to be awarded is $500.
Dean's Merit List
For outstanding academic achievements of graduates from the Faculty of Business and Law postgraduate coursework degrees.
Brookes Scholar Award
A medal and citation will be awarded to the two most outstanding students in the MBA graduating class.
Deakin Business Practicum Prize
A prize of $500 for the best project conducted in MPI701 Business Practicum.
Easy Forex FX Trading Prize
Awarded to the best student in each trimester in MPE707/907 International Banking and Finance. $500 currency trading account with Easy Forex.
Graduate Management Association of Australia Award
A prize of $250 for the best on-campus student in MPM706 Strategic Management in Trimester 1 and Trimester 2.
Michael King Prize
A prize of $500 for the best business plan assignment in MPR705 Entrepreneurship (Residential).
Not for profit sector - MBA Residential Unit Scholarship
The Deakin Business School, in conjunction with the Australian Scholarships Foundation, offers scholarships up to $2000 for students who enrol in an MBA residential unit and are employed in the not for profit sector. Three per annum. Subject to eligibility criteria.

School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences
Nestle Healthcare Nutrition Prize in Clinical Dietetics
A $100 gift voucher and a certificate to be awarded annually to the student with the highest mark in HSN747 Clinical Dietetic Practice.
Professor's Prize in Dietetics
A prize of $250 for the most outstanding graduating student from the Master of Dietetics based on a combination of high level academic achievement and professional practice in the applications of dietetics.
Postgraduate Human Nutrition Awards
Two prizes will be offered consisting of a $100 gift voucher and a certificate to be awarded annually to one student with the highest mark in HSN701 Principles of Nutrition and one student with the highest mark in HSN702 Lifespan Nutrition enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of Human Nutrition, Graduate Diploma of Human Nutrition or Master of Human Nutrition (one award per unit).
School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences Award for Best PhD Paper
Three prizes of $100 and a certificate to be awarded annually to the three best papers published by PhD candidates in the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences. The recipients will be chosen by the School HDR Research committee.

Master Health Promotion - Course Leader's Prize for best Major Project
A prize of $200 and a certificate to be awarded annually to the best Major Project from the Master of Health Promotion course.
Master Health Promotion - Course Leader's Prize for best Minor Project
A prize of $100 and a certificate to be awarded annually to the best Minor Project from the Master of Health Promotion course.
Yungaburra Foundation Award
A prize of $500 is presented to an honours or postgraduate student with leadership potential in the disability field.
School of Nursing and Midwifery
Australian Society of Anaesthesia and Post Anaesthesia Nurses (ASPAAN) Award
A prize of one year's membership to ASPAAN, awarded to the highest achieving student enrolled in the Master of Nursing Practice (Specialty Practice – Perioperative).
Elsevier Australia
A $100 book voucher awarded to the highest achieving Master of Nursing Practice student.
JR Medical Books Prizes
- A $100 book voucher is awarded for the best all-round academic and clinical performance by a student enrolled in the Graduate Certificate / Diploma of Nursing Practice (Critical Care suite).
- A $100 book voucher is awarded for the best all-round academic and clinical performance by a student enrolled in the Graduate Certificate / Diploma of Nursing Practice (Perioperative).
- A $100 book voucher is awarded for the best all-round academic and clinical performance by a student enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery.
Matrix Surgical Award
A prize of $100 and a certificate to be awarded annually to the highest achieving student from the Graduate Diploma of Nursing Practice (Perioperative) specialising in the Intraoperative Nursing Stream, in Unit HNN744.
Novo Nordisk Award
A prize of a $200 book voucher and a certificate to the highest achieving student for the Graduate Certificate of Diabetes Education.

This prize is currently under review.
Coltman Prize
Awarded to a higher degree by research (HDR) student undertaking research in the field of biomedical science. The Coltman Prize recognises outstanding ability and achievement. The prize is valued at $1500 and is awarded as a cash payment. To be eligible for the prize applicants must be enrolled in a higher degree by research program within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment.
School of Architecture and Built Environment
Chartered Institute of Building (CIOBA) Building Research Postgraduate Award
Awarded to an excellent postgraduate student enrolled in the Master of Construction Management by Research.
City of Greater Geelong Landscape Architecture Award
An award of $500 is made annually to the student enrolled in the Master of Landscape Architecture who achieves the highest aggregate marks in the unit SRR717 Thesis (Landscape Architecture).
Graham Treloar Research Prize
A prize of $500 is awarded annually to the most outstanding HDR student publication in relation to embodied energy and sustainability.
National Trust of Australia (Geelong and Regional Branch) Heritage Award
Two awards of $500 are made annually to students studying at either undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) level in the School of Architecture and Built Environment and who are judged as promoting the value and importance of heritage as part of the built environment. They will have demonstrated in their tertiary education studies a greater understanding of heritage principles and conservation and advance the spirit of the aims and objectives of the National Trust of Australia.
Places Victoria Planning Award
An award of $500 is made annually to the student who achieves the highest aggregate marks in the unit SRM781 Managing Change and Innovation.
The Warralily Urban Design Award
An award of $500 is made annually to the student who achieves the highest aggregate marks in the unit SRD764 Urban Design Studio.
School of Information Technology
Professor of Information Technology Postgraduate Coursework Degree Award
An award of $500 and a certificate is presented to the student who has graduated with either the Master of Information Technology; the Master of Information Technology (Professional); or the Master of Networking and Security and has achieved the highest overall weighted average mark.
Professor of Information Technology Postgraduate Research Degree Award
An award of $500 and a certificate is presented to the PhD student enrolled in the School of Information Technology who has demonstrated the highest research and academic merit. The recipient will have completed an equivalent of two years full-time candidature and be currently enrolled in their third year of study.
School of Life and Environmental Sciences
Loch Postgraduate Research Award
A prize of $1000 is awarded annually to a postgraduate research student in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences who has demonstrated outstanding achievement and research endeavour. The successful recipient must be currently enrolled and have completed between 12 and 24 months of their candidature on a full time equivalent basis. Recipients can receive the Loch Postgraduate Research Award only once in their candidature.
