Private travel insurance

Once you have registered for travel insurance, you are covered by Deakin's travel insurance policy for approved international study-related travel up to 12 months.

This includes a maximum of 10 days leisure travel either immediately before or after the study component, or a combination of both, at no cost.

A separate stand-alone private travel insurance policy needs to be purchased to provide insurance cover for additional leisure days (in excess of 10 days leisure travel) or for accompanying travellers or for travel within Australia (domestic travel).

Cover for additional leisure days

Cover for additional leisure days (in excess of 10 days leisure travel) is not available under Deakin's travel insurance policy.  The insurance cover for additional leisure days greater than 10 days can be purchased and paid for separately from another insurer.

Cover for accompanying travellers

Cover for accompanying travellers is not available under Deakin's travel insurance policy.  The insurance cover for accompanying travellers can be purchased and paid for separately from another insurer.

Cover for travel within Australia

Cover for travel within Australia is not available under Deakin's travel insurance policy.  The insurance cover for travel within Australia can be purchased and paid for separately from another insurer.

Additional costs

The cost to purchase the insurance cover for additional leisure days/accompanying travellers/travel within Australia under the separate stand-alone private travel insurance policy is at your cost.

Policy wording

When purchasing additional insurance cover from another insurer, different policy wordings and clauses will apply, i.e. existing medical conditions, age limits, excesses (deductibles), etc. These should be reviewed at the time of purchase.

Private travel insurance policy claims procedure

If additional insurance cover has been purchased and paid for separately from another insurer, an alternative claims procedure will apply. The claims procedure will need to be confirmed with the applicable insurer.
