Overview
Dr Geoffrey Wescott has made a substantive, long-term contribution to Victoria's coastal environments. In 2011 he won a Deakin Alumni of the Year Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the protection and management of Australia's marine and coastal environments.
Career path and highlights
Dr Wescott is an Associate Professor of Environment at Deakin, a founder of the Australian Coastal Society and inaugural Chair of the Marine and Coastal Community Network. He was also an inaugural member of the Victorian Coastal Council and played a pivotal role in devising the current Victorian Coastal Management Act.
Having studied in both Australia and the UK, Dr Wescott has published more than 100 articles on the environment and co-authored the popular field guide, Life on the Rocky Shores of South-Eastern Australia.
He is a sought-after public speaker on coastal protection and management issues, and has won numerous academic and community awards. He was made a Fellow of the Environmental Institute of Australia and New Zealand in 1999.
