Find a research degree scholarship
Our research degree and PhD scholarships can cover tuition fees, overseas student health cover and relocation allowances where relevant. Our scholarship recipients receive an above university average $35,550 per annum stipend (tax exempt). For the best chance at securing a scholarship, you’ll need an H1 grade average or equivalent.
Use our find a scholarship tool and filter by ‘Higher Degrees Research’ to discover scholarships tailored to your goals.
Government and Deakin-funded scholarships
If you’re a high-achieving domestic or international research student, you may qualify for the Australian Government's Research Training Program (RTP). RTP recipients enjoy benefits like a stipend, fee offset and relocation allowance.
Deakin University also offers the Postgraduate Research Scholarship (DUPR), providing additional support for both domestic and international students.

How much does a PhD or research degree cost?
Your tuition fees will vary depending on your course, the type of student you are and the scholarships available to you.
Domestic student fees
Did you know that if you’re an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or permanent visa holder you may not need to pay tuition fees for your research degree? Funding for tuition fees may come from Deakin, the Australian government, or both, and can support eligible students for up to four years.
International student fees
International student tuition fees vary by course. Visit the course page for specific fee information or use our calculator for an estimate. International students may apply for an international research scholarship to cover the full cost of their fees. Ensure you meet the visa requirements and are prepared to cover any additional costs associated with your study.
Funding and grants for your research
Deakin researchers can access national and international grants, including funding from industry, government and commercial collaborations. We also offer support, such as $5000 for disseminating research findings at international conferences.
