How our research helps reduce violence against women and children
The Deakin Network Against Gendered Violence (DNAGV) aims to develop evidence-based strategies and tools to reduce violence against women and children, in a practical and informed way.
We provide regular opportunities for Deakin researchers to collaborate and identify further areas of expertise, host events and build capacity for enhanced research collaborations with academics from other faculties and universities, the community, the family violence sector, and government and non-government stakeholders.
Our research areas
Our interdisciplinary team of researchers have expertise in violence against women and children, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, family violence, same-sex violence, the role of intersectionality and legal and non-legal regulation of this violence.

Deakin Network Against Gendered Violence
Our researchers
Our team of over 45 researchers collaborate to further build Deakin’s expertise in addressing gendered violence.
Associate Professor Lata Satyen is a registered psychologist and the co-convenor of the Deakin Network Against Gendered Violence. Her research focuses on intersectionality in family and domestic violence, mental health outcomes and the cultural relevance of prevention and intervention programs.
Associate Professor Mary Iliadis is the co-convenor of the Deakin Network Against Gendered Violence and Associate Professor in criminology. She is recognised for her research on legal and non-legal regulation and responses to domestic, family and sexual violence.
Professor Marilyn McMahon is a professor in criminal law, the Dean of Deakin Law School and a registered psychologist. Her research focuses on criminal law, criminal procedure, criminal responsibility and evidence.
