Course resources and textbooks

Deakin Library provides support for teaching and learning in the form of textbooks and reading lists, in line with the values and principles outlined in the Collection Governance Framework. The library does not provide class sets of textbooks but will make available limited copies of textbooks for loan and/or online access.

The library relies on a consistent application of the below textbook definitions:

  • A prescribed textbook is a resource that is an essential reference for success in the unit. The library cannot guarantee access to prescribed texts; therefore, students are expected to purchase a print or electronic access copy as part of their unit learning experience.
  • A recommended textbook is a resource that students are advised to read to build foundational knowledge, but it is not an essential requirement for their unit learning experience.

For information on course resources and support on choosing textbooks please refer to Textbooks and readings.

Please note: Unlimited access to e-textbooks is preferred, though some vendors may limit how many users can access the resource. Student access to e-textbooks cannot be guaranteed during periods of high demand, including exam revision periods. Deakin Library are actively working with CAUL to improve e-book provisions as outlined in the CAUL procurement statement on e-book provision.
