Short term loans
Some items are only available as a 2 hour loan, because they are:
- in high demand by a lot of students (especially prescribed and recommended texts)
- very expensive
- no longer printed.
Automatic renewals
All loans (except 2 hour loans) automatically renew two days before the due date unless:
- the item is requested by another user
- you have reached the maximum number of renewals.
How to borrow
Once you have found your book, you can borrow it by:
- using a self-checkout machine
- using the Deakin Borrow app on your smartphone
- visiting the Service Desk.
How to place a request
If your item is not at your campus, or is currently out on loan, you can place a request by:
- Clicking on the 'Request it' button in Library Search.
- Using the dropdown menu to choose how to receive your request:
- 'Click and collect' at your preferred campus, or
- 'Click and send' for postal delivery
Request to collect at your preferred campus
We'll email you when your item is available on the click and collect shelf at your preferred campus.
Request a postal delivery
We can mail books to all domestic students and staff for free. If you are a student living overseas, contact us for help sourcing the items you need.
Note: 2 hour loans cannot be delivered because of the time needed to deliver items.
You will receive an prepaid, self-addressed postal bag to return your books. Please allow 4 business days for return delivery to us.
How to return books
Return your book to any of our campus libraries:
- at the Service Desk
- through the return chute (near the Service Desk or near the entrances to libraries/campuses)
- via the prepaid postal bag (supplied with your delivery)
Make sure you return your item on time. This helps to avoid problems with your library account, and allows other users to access our resources.
