What is research data management?
Research data management includes all the activities associated with data other than using the data. Examples include:
- Storage of data
- Organising data into directories/folders and using meaningful names
- Archiving data for long-term preservation
- Ensuring the security of confidential data
- Synchronising between different storage locations
- Sharing data during a project to collaborate with other researchers
- Describing datasets for future publication, reuse and discovery
