How to apply to study in Australia at Deakin University

We recommend you engage a Deakin authorised agent. Our global network of experienced agents are trained to provide advice and information on the University and our degrees. They will also submit the application on your behalf.

When applying, please ensure you allow enough time for us process your application, for you to accept and to obtain your student visa in time for you to arrive in Australia for the start of your course.

For March (Trimester 1) 2025 intake, the application deadlines are:

  • Sri Lanka: 12 December 2024
  • Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam: 24 January 2025
  • Australia (onshore international students): 12 March 2025

For all other countries, please contact your local Deakin office.

  1. Choose your degree

Choose the ideal course for your future. On each course page you will find information on entry requirements, professional recognition, career opportunities, course structure, fees and more.

The course page also tells you which of our four Australian campuses the course is offered at and in which trimester you can start.

  2. Check entry requirements

Academic and language requirements differ depending on your degree or country of residence. Before starting your application, read through the entry requirements on the course page, which can be found in the entry requirements tab. If you are required to complete an English language test, now is the time to organise it.

Need to improve your English language skills?

Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI) offers programs to improve your English language skills as a pathway to a Deakin degree. Please note, this page is available in both Indonesian and Vietnamese.

Need help meeting the academic requirements?

Deakin College is your first step towards your dream degree at Deakin University. With small class sizes and a supportive environment, Deakin College sets you up for success at university.

  3. Obtain and certify supporting documents

You will need to include documents with your application, such as award certificates (diplomas), academic transcripts, evidence of English proficiency and proof of identity (such as your passport). Most documents need to be certified. Take the original document and a photocopy to an authorised person (for example: justice of the peace, public notary, member of the police force or Australian lawyer) to sign. Documents in languages other than English will also need to be translated.

We recommend you include all documents with your application submission. This allows us to process your application quickly. However if you are waiting for something, such as your IELTS result, you can submit an incomplete application. We can start to process but cannot make an offer until we have all documents.

Applying as early as possible gives you more time to arrange your visa, travel and accommodation if your application is successful.

  4. Submit your application

If you are working with a Deakin authorised agent, they will submit your application for you. Depending on your nationality and country of residence, you may be required to submit through an agent.

If you choose to submit without an agent, use our online international student application service StudyLink Connect.

Worked or studied before?

Worked or studied before?

If you have studied before or been in the workforce your qualifications may reduce the number of subjects or units in your degree, allowing you to finish earlier and pay less. This is called recognition of prior learning. The application form includes a section about your tertiary education and work experience, and requires some certified documents.

Did you know a scholarship can reduce your fees?

Deakin offers scholarships to assist international students throughout their studies, and you may be eligible. Scholarships are merit based. Some have eligibility criteria based on your nationality or what you are studying. There is a limited number of scholarships available and most are awarded on a first come, first served basis. The earlier you apply, the better chance you have of being offered a scholarship.

Deakin's international tuition fees vary depending on the degree and units you choose, as well as your level of study. The fee payment process is simple and easy to use. Scholarships are deducted from your fees.

How to write a personal statement

Not all courses require a personal statement as part of the application. But if you are writing one, it should be relevant to your chosen course, well-written and uniquely about you. It is your opportunity to explain or expand on the other documents you submit as part of your application.
