Deakin HUBS
The Deakin HUBS will serve as the hub for all engagement initiatives alongside strategic partners Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Symbiosis International University, Chitkara University and OP Jindal Global University. This initiative is one of the many steps taken by Deakin University towards realising the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to achieve internationalisation of higher education in India through research collaborations and student exchange with high-quality foreign Higher Educational Institutions (HEI).
Manipal Academy of Higher Education
Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) is one of India's leading academic and research institutions. Over 40,000 students from all over the world pursue undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in diverse subjects. The finest of infrastructure facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, well-equipped laboratories and dedicated and competent faculty have enabled MAHE to be recognised as Institution of Eminence status by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Collaboration model: the Deakin and MAHE partnership has spanned more than two decades, with collaborations ranging from student pathway programs to research partnerships and faculty and student exchange programs.
Pathway programs offered by Deakin to MAHE Students
The Manipal-Deakin pathway programs offers MAHE students to transfer into a range of courses at Deakin and graduate with both a Deakin and MAHE degree.
Dual degree
Upon successful completion of the initial two years of study at MAHE, students are eligible to transfer to Deakin University, Australia. By completing the subsequent two years of their program at Deakin, students can graduate with dual degrees from both the institutes.
Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) students can transfer into:
- Deakin’s Deakin Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a major in Mechanical Engineering
- Deakin’s Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a major in Mechatronics Engineering
Pathway to accelerated masters
The unique double degree program allows students with a MAHE bachelor degree from India to directly pursue their masters degree at Deakin University, Australia while saving on time and the hassle of international admissions.
Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) students can transfer into the following Deakin masters programs:
- Master of Information Technology (Professional)
- Master of Applied Artificial Intelligence
- Master of Data Science (Professional)
- Master of Cyber Security (Professional)
Articulation pathways
The 2+2 year model offers Manipal students the opportunity to transfer into the third year of study in a range of undergraduate programs in Australia and graduate with a Deakin degree.

Symbiosis International University (SIU)
Founded in 2002, the Symbiosis International University is a private higher education institute located in the city of Pune, India. The university has more than 41 academic institutions and hosts more than 40,000 international and domestic students from more than 85 countries. Ranked 351–400 in Asia by the QS World University Rankings of 2023, the Institution is based on the principles of Vedic thought of 'World as One Family.'
Collaboration model: the partnership builds upon a two-decade strategic alliance between the two institutions, which includes a Deakin HUB successfully operating at Symbiosis International (Deemed University) and a partnership that has achieved significant goals for internationalisation of curriculum, hybrid models of engagement, offering student support and mobility between campuses, a women's entrepreneurship research alliance and facilitating critical in-country support for student mobility, internships and industry interface.
The SIU-Deakin pathway programs offer Symbiosis students a dual degree and an accelerated masters program in business administration/analytics and liberal arts respectively, further opening access to an internationalised educational experience.

Chitkara University
A coveted NAAC A+ accredited university, Chitkara University offers a wide range of industry-relevant multi-disciplinary programs and has earned a reputation as one of the premier private universities in Northern India. Located just 30km from the contemporary and beautiful city of Chandigarh, Chitkara University has two campuses in the states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, offering globally applied learning exposure to its students.
Collaboration model: the Deakin HUB will act as the central point of all engagement activities for the pathway programs and will be established in Chandigarh at Chitkara University’s campus. The hub aims to foster collaboration and focus on joint programs, student mobility and engagement, research and innovation and capacity building and skilling.

Dual degree
This program is jointly developed by mapping Chitkara University’s bachelor in software engineering to the curriculum of the Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) degree at Deakin.
Students have the option to smoothly transition to Deakin University in Australia in their third year, ultimately leading to a globally recognised Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) degree from Deakin University subject to meeting all transfer requirements.
Articulation pathways
Chitkara University engineering students can transfer into the following Deakin bachelor programs:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a major in Civil Engineering
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a major in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a major in Mechanical Engineering
- Bachelor of Information Technology
Joint Doctorate Program
The Joint Doctoral Program at Chitkara University and Deakin University is a path-breaking initiative, fostering innovation, nurturing talent and creating a platform for students to thrive as distinguished researchers on the global stage.
Additionally, the four-year program allows students to undertake their PhD research across both universities in two different countries, with double the supervision, facilities, resources and funding opportunities.
Students have the option to spend up to 12 months at Deakin University in Australia, contingent upon their performance and research progress and will be conferred with a PhD degree from both the universities.
O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU)
O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) has consistently earned recognition as India's top private university for three consecutive years, securing its position in the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2023. Comprising over 11,000 students from over 70 countries and boasting a faculty of 1100+ members, JGU operates on a fully residential campus.
Collaboration model: the partnership will focus on proving excellence through hybrid models of teaching and learning as per academic governance policies of both countries in the emerging study across education, training and research.

Pathway programs offered by Deakin to JGU students
Dual bachelor and accelerated masters
Study the initial two years of your bachelor degree at JGU in India, then seamlessly transfer to Deakin University, Australia for your third year. Upon successful completion of the program, you will earn dual degrees from both institutions. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to pursue a masters degree at Deakin within a span of 1.5 years.
- Global B. Com program: the Global B.Com. program, offered by the Jindal School of Banking & Finance (JSBF) in collaboration with Deakin University, provides a unique educational pathway to students seeking to become future leaders with international skills and a deeper intercultural understanding of the world. The unique portfolio of two undergraduate degrees from both institutions and a masters degree from Deakin will ensure that graduates have an incredible opportunity to learn and grow in two international university systems.
- JGU’S B.A. (Hons.) Journalism & Media Studies + Deakin’s Bachelor of Communication and Master of Communication: earn two bachelor degrees from both universities and Deakin’s masters degree through one streamlined program at an accelerated pace of 4.5 years. Graduates have an incredible opportunity to learn and grow in two international university systems while saving on the cost and study time of graduate admission tests, application fees and extra courses.
Dual degree
Upon completing two years at each institution, students earn dual degrees from both the institutes benefitting from Deakin's global linkages and world-class research and JGU’s dynamic learning environment.

The Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) is the largest academic institution for doctoral research in India. Deakin and AcSIR partner to offer research opportunities in science and engineering for students in India and Australia. The organisations aim to collaborate on areas of shared research interests.
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati
The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) is known for its research on theoretical and applied aspects of core science. Deakin and IIT Guwahati are members of Australia India Water Council and seek to collaborate on research on water and biopolymers. Together, they facilitate a joint doctoral program, student internships, mobility and faculty exchange.
Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad
The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) is one of the most coveted schools for science and technology in India. Deakin and IIT Hyderabad collaborate through a joint doctoral program and student exchanges in the areas of additive manufacturing and artificial intelligence.
Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur
The Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IIT Jodhpur) fosters technology education and research to benefit the economic development of India. Deakin and IIT Jodhpur collaborate to promote research in computer science, medical devices, digital humanities, energy and infrastructure through joint doctoral programs, student internships, mobility and faculty exchange.
Indian Institute of Technology Madras
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is known for excellence in technological education. Deakin and IIT Madras established a joint doctoral program, facilitate student exchange and established the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing in 2017. In 2022, Deakin and IIT Madras launched the virtual Australia-India Centre for Energy to drive collaboration between government, funding agencies and researchers.

The Indian School of Business evolved from the need for a world-class business school in Asia. It is committed to creating leaders through its innovative programs, outstanding faculty and thought leadership. Deakin and the Indian School of Business collaborate on various areas of research in business and management through a joint doctoral program.

TERI-Deakin Nano Biotechnology Centre
The TERI-Deakin Nanobiotechnology Centre was established in 2011 by India’s The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in collaboration with Deakin and aims to foster cutting-edge research in nanobiotechnology. Research delves into issues of food security in changing climates, remediation of polluted environments through natural products and improving health through novel molecules.
An innovative educational partnership
Deakin has officially unveiled its India campus in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), making it the first university in the world to open an international teaching campus in India. You can now apply to study at our GIFT City Campus in India.
