Get the support you need to succeed
Our First Nations students are a very valued part of the Deakin community and we want to help you achieve all your study goals. As a Deakin student, you'll have access to free study assistance and culturally appropriate personal support.
Study support
All Deakin students have access to Language and Learning Advisers, personalised sessions with mentors and online group study sessions to help you build your academic skills.
Skills support
The Indigenous Tutorial Network offers support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with assignment writing, presentation skills and time management to boost confidence.
Wellbeing support
We prioritise your health and wellbeing, offering services like bulk-billed medical centres, access to counselling services and other services designed to ensure you stay healthy and safe.
Personal support
First Nations students can access a Social and Emotional Wellbeing counsellor for culturally safe and respectful support. Appointments are available in person, online or by telephone.
Study in your community
Deakin values your cultural wellbeing, offering flexible, community-based education. The NIKERI Institute allows Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to study online with on-campus week-long intensives.

Everyone deserves access to higher education without financial stress. A Deakin scholarship can provide the support you need to focus on your studies. We offer scholarships that recognise your dedication and achievements both inside and outside the classroom.

When you study at Deakin, you’ll be joining the largest cohort of First Nations students at a Victorian university, in a space with shared cultural values and belief systems. Orientation is the perfect chance to learn more about Deakin and how to access our culturally specific support services.
Start building your future
Our university career service, DeakinTalent, supports you during your studies and beyond. We help with resume writing, interview skills and marketing yourself to employers. Graduates have access to our job boards for life.
