Meet the Head of the School of Life and Environmental Sciences
Associate Professor Janine McBurnie is passionate about environmental sustainability and sustainability education. Since 1996 she has been teaching Deakin students across a variety of courses and disciplines, with the aim of inspiring them to become lifelong learners. She has been focussed in the first-year teaching space, holding the title of Faculty of Science, Engineering and the Built Environment Director of First Year Studies since its inception in 2019. To complement her passion in protecting our natural environment, Associate Professor McBurnie has more recently been active in the integration of Indigenous Knowledges, and Indigenous Engagement in natural resources management.
Our innovative courses blend cutting-edge research with hands-on experience in diverse fields such as marine science, sustainability and environmental management, forensic science and more. Join us to make a real-world impact in science and environmental stewardship.
