Continuous Professional Development Community Program

Our Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Community Program provides professional engineers relevant training and development opportunities, facilitates networking and meets the needs to both apply and maintain registration status.

Program focus

Registered professional engineers are required by law in Victoria, and some other states and territories, to undertake 50 hours of CPD activities annually across a 3-year period (totalling 150 hours). These activities satisfy the requirements for engineers to apply for or maintain their registration.

We recognised an opportunity for educators and researchers in the School of Engineering to work with industry to co-design and provide organisations with affordable, relevant and ongoing training options for their engineering staff.

The CPD Community Program has been designed to provide organisations with technical ‘area or practice’ focused training and is offered through a bulk membership model. Individual organisations are encouraged to contribute to the program to provide a more tailored approach for staff.

Engineering skills for professionals

Engineering skills for professionals

The School of Engineering offers the latest technology and research, with well-established industry and community networks – particularly in Victoria – meaning we're well-positioned to provide accessible and flexible learning and development activities and resources to support your staff.

Program delivery

The CPD program intersects training, research and practice by encouraging participating engineers to inform their continuous learning, and draw on the university's research and teaching expertise to facilitate it. This approach ensures training is relevant and adds value to participating organisations without the need to engage multiple third-party training organisations.

Our program includes a comprehensive suite of activities for staff training and development:

  • seminars
  • deep-dive sessions
  • networking opportunities
  • access to an online private community group
  • access to program information, upcoming events and on-demand learning material
  • online portfolio tracking that supports participants collating evidence of engagement with appropriate CPD for their engineering ‘area of practice’ and other needs.

Collaboration and partnerships

Our partners become valued members of the wider Deakin engineering family, not just our school. Through extensive partnerships with industry, we aim to ensure that our teaching and research meets the changing needs of industry and the communities we work with. We welcome input from all our partners.
