Rural and regional placements
Professional experience placements in rural and regional areas are encouraged and supported in line with Deakin’s commitment to redressing the health disparities faced by those living in these areas. This provides you with an opportunity to work with people from diverse populations, enriching your learning in the classroom.
How to plan ahead for your placement
It’s important to plan ahead for your professional experience placement. The following is a checklist of everything you'll need to do to be ready for your placement, once you're enrolled as a Deakin student:
Apply for your National Police Check
To apply, you'll need to meet certain identity requirements and pay a processing fee. As a Deakin nursing and midwifery student, you'll receive your police check at a discounted rate. Learn more about National Police Checks.
Obtain your Working with Children Check
Your Working With Children Check must remain current throughout your course. Learn more about the Working with Children Check.
Book your vaccinations
Students are expected to show evidence of vaccinations as per external placement requirements.
