Clinical schools

Clinical experience is a crucial part of Deakin's Doctor of Medicine. In addition to our facilities at Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, additional teaching sites have been established across Victoria to train students during the third and fourth years of their medical degree. Each site is aligned with hospitals, health services and clinics, including Barwon Health in Geelong, Eastern Health in Melbourne and the regional centres of Ballarat and Warrnambool, providing well-rounded clinical experiences for each student.

Our Rural Community Clinical School (RCCS) also offers students the option of parallel consulting during their third year, via placements in smaller rural and regional towns.

Ballarat Clinical School is located within Grampians Health – Victoria's second largest regional health service. Learn across acute, sub-acute and community settings working closely with healthcare professionals and the local community to expand your network and clinical learning experiences.

Eastern Health is located in many locations across Melbourne and is Victoria’s second largest health service. Our Medical Student Program is unique to Eastern Health Clinical School and allows you to be guided by a senior doctor academic during your clinical year.

Located in the heart of Geelong, Geelong Clinical School works with Victoria's largest regional healthcare provider, Barwon Health, to deliver a full spectrum of care across the Geelong region. Train alongside consultants, registrars and junior doctors and immerse yourself in the academic and social opportunities offered at Deakin's largest clinical school.

Spend 12 months during your third year learning alongside rural generalists and specialists in regional Victoria at our Rural Community Clinical School. Using an innovative educational model, follow patients over time through a range of healthcare settings at one of our nine locations across Victoria and boost your preparedness for fourth year placement.

Get a more personalised clinical experience at Warrnambool Rural Clinical School, part of South West Healthcare. With small tutorial group sizes and a smaller student-to-patient ratio, the school immerses you in a clinical environment paired with a formal teaching program.
