Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation
IMPACT develops new and effective responses to mental and physical health for our community. Its more than 300 researchers use innovative approaches to translate medical research from the laboratory to real-world solutions.

We work with many local health services and government to translate our high-quality world-class research into outcomes that are relevant and meaningful to our communities. Some of our partnerships include:
- Centre for Organisational Change in Person-Centred Healthcare – provides education and training, uses translational research to influence change in policy and the culture of healthcare systems.
- Bioinformatics Core Research Group – provides expertise in experimental design, next generation sequencing design and analysis and gene expression studies.
- Western Alliance Academic Health Science Centre – a partnership between Deakin University, Federation University and 11 health service providers operating across the western region of Victoria.
- Centre for Rural Emergency Medicine – provides training in emergency medicine for students and health professionals working in rural and regional locations.
- National Centre for Farmer Health – provides research to reduce disease and injury among farmers, agricultural workers and their families.
We partner with healthcare providers, industry, government and community groups with the aim to facilitate collaborative engagement, including education and training.

School of Medicine research facilities are available to book by Deakin researchers and students, as well as researchers in the greater Geelong region.
Biological imaging facility
The Biological Imaging Facility provides optical imaging equipment. Technologies supported by this facility currently include light microscopy, fluorescent microscopy and confocal microscopy. We can also support your study design, sample imaging and data analyses.
Flow Cytometry Facility
The Flow Cytometry Facility provides cell analysis and sorting. Book your access to the School of Medicine’s flow cytometry equipment and expertise that enables analysis, isolation and separation of cells of interest from mixed populations.
