Flow cytometry facility

The School of Medicine flow cytometry facility (SOMFlow) provides cell analysis and sorting services to support Deakin researchers and the broader Geelong scientific research community.

Access state-of-the-art facilities

SOMFlow provides access to flow cytometry equipment and expertise, enabling the analysis, isolation and separation of target cells from mixed populations. This capability significantly expands the potential for in-depth detailed cellular analysis. Our PC2 facility houses two analysers, BD CantoTM II (3-Laser, 8-Color), BD Fortessa X20 (3-Laser, 16-Color) and one BD FACSAriaTM III sorter (4-Laser, 12-Color).

Guidelines for using the flow cytometry facility

Bookings are essential to access the facility and all users must complete full training before use. The Flow Cytometry Facility operates 24/7 and can be booked in one-hour minimum increments, with additional time in 30-minute intervals. Charging begins at the scheduled booking time, so arriving on time is crucial – you will be charged for the booked duration or the actual time used, whichever is longer.

Each booking includes 20 minutes for machine setup and 10 minutes for post-sort cleaning. If purity checks are required after sorting, an additional five to 10 minutes will be included in your booking.

Book the facility

Bookings can be made online via the Outlook calendar following these instructions or by contacting us directly. Please include date and time details plus the equipment you’d like to use.
