Research specialisations

The Department of Accounting is internationally renowned for its innovative, high-quality research – particularly its capital market research, which is focused on audit, corporate governance and financial accounting.

The Department has also broadened its research focus from public companies to include for-profit private firms such as SMEs and not-for-profit entities such as charities – both under-researched segments of the economy. The areas where we are developing our research strengths include:

  • organisational governance and accountability
  • auditing and assurance services
  • reporting (financial and non-financial)
  • the financial implications of political connections
  • integrated reporting
  • SMEs and NFPs
  • accounting professionalisation, with focuses on Indigenous accounting and business
  • financial planning.
