We've got a professional photographic light studio, digital photographic printing and editing facilities, and a darkroom. We also have an extensive range of professional digital cameras that are the first preference for the world's best filmmakers and photographers.

Nyaal immersive learning precinct

Nyaal – a Wadawurrung word meaning ‘to open your eyes’ – allows you to respond to and learn from a range of changeable environments, conditions and scenarios. The 360-degree theatre, collaborative think tank and event space provide an interactive experience for all our students.

Film, television and animation facilities

Explore your on-screen creative vision using industry-grade virtual production equipment, develop your skills in film and television studios, work in our editing suite and get hands-on experience with animation software. You’ll also be able to access professional equipment including lighting and high-grade cameras, the choice of film directors.

TV and virtual production at Deakin Studios

Deakin Studios (Burwood) has a virtual production, TV, film and animation studio. Get hands-on experience using professional equipment, including our camera motion control rig, grading and editing rooms, green screen studio, hand-drawn animation light boxes and television broadcast studios. You’ll be fully supported to learn the technical skills you need to see your ideas come to life on the big screen.

Bring your industry project to life in our facilities

Students can gain hands-on experience in live sports broadcasting and creative productions, utilising state-of-the-art facilities such as Deakin’s outside broadcast (OB) van and virtual production studios. The Deakin Production and Creative Arts Industry Hub connects businesses with student interns and offers access to specialised equipment for tailored project solutions.

Deakin offers language diplomas in Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian and Spanish. We’ve created gamified language learning platforms that enhance interactive learning beyond the traditional classroom, while maintaining authentic human-to-human interaction. Plus, we’re adopting artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance language acquisition.

Go to work in our collaborative state-of-the art news production area with an editorial hub where you can refine your skills in an industry‑grade media environment.

Industry-standard newsroom

Learn in a world-class newsroom and creative media lab. It’s an industry standard media environment at our Melbourne Burwood Campus. The lab and newsroom include:

  • a green-screen studio linked to the newsroom and other creative production suites, to produce video content
  • a collaborative news production area with an editorial hub, workstations and monitors to stream live TV news channels
  • editing booths for audio and audiovisual editing and to conduct recorded interviews in acoustically quiet spaces
  • shared computer spaces for students to work together on a single digital production
  • creative spaces for collaborative learning and team projects.
