Study commitment | Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site. |
Scheduled learning activities - online | Online independent and collaborative learning. Students will be required to complete a minimum of 112 - 160 hours of workplace activities with an approved, discipline-aligned company or organisation, within a 4 to 12 week period. |
Note: | Students can apply for placement approval throughout the year. However, enrolment into a specific trimester after week 1 is subject to Unit Chair approval. In preparation for the placement, students are required to complete the Placement Preparation Module (PPM) before commencing their professional experience (placement). For more information and to complete the application process: please refer to SEBE WIL Program or email sebe-wil@deakin.edu.au. Note also that delays in completing the placement could mean that the course will take longer to complete than the stated duration. Attendance at the placement may be required outside the trimester dates. |
Content
The work integrated learning strategies adopted in this unit include student-initiated through reflective and action learning and or applied practice-based experiences including professional creative work at approved venues. The application of these learning strategies is embedded in a guided program of assessable components that give students the opportunity to develop generic skills in career-related skills, aligned to their course discipline, as well as developing the specific skills and knowledge required of a built environment professional in practice. Involving formal learning, this practice-based experience for students is intended to enable the development and advancement of knowledge and skills typically sought from graduate professional built environment practitioners. Through a combination of preparatory classes and a work placement, students will develop generic, employability skills that prepares them for work, and a career in their chosen fields.

Tuition fees increase at the beginning of each calendar year and all fees quoted are in Australian dollars ($AUD). Tuition fees do not include textbooks, computer equipment or software, other equipment or costs such as mandatory checks, travel and stationery.
