Content
Australia is a country rich in renewable and non-renewable natural resources. The extraction of fossil fuels including minerals, hydrocarbons, petroleum, natural gas and unconventional gas has formed a significant part of our economic development for many years. As the energy system transitions in line with domestic and climate commitments, Australia has seen the emergence of renewable energy such as solar and wind, carbon offset regimes and the progression of a green economy. These industries will continue to expand and develop as global systems adjust to decarbonisation imperatives. This unit explores the different legal, regulatory and policy frameworks that inform this development.
