Study commitment | Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site. |

Content
Students enrolled in this subject will learn about local, State and Commonwealth laws that regulate activities with potential impacts on the environment. Students will study the statutory process for securing approvals for those activities. Students will also learn about the avenues for challenging decisions and about the mechanisms for enforcing environmental and climate obligations. Study of the law will be complemented by an examination of the ethical, scientific, economic, political and social contexts of environmental policy including: the global climate emergency, the international principles of ecological development, environmental policy and climate justice. Specific topics will focus upon bushfire regulation and best practice, water management, deforestation regulation, environmental pollution and domestic climate law. Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of environment and climate law and their ability to engage in legal reasoning by discussing and solving complex legal problems and considering possible law reforms.
