Study commitment

Students will on average, spend 150 hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. This will include a minimum of 33 hours (11 x 3 hr) of intensive classroom activities.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Scheduled learning activities - campus

1 x 1 hour on-campus lecture (recordings provided) and 1 x 2 hour seminar (recordings provided) each week.

Content

This is an application oriented empirical research methods unit for first-year students of Master of Research program. This unit reviews the process /components of empirical research, focuses on understanding and managing data for research. Using multiple mini empirical projects - it explores descriptive and predictive models of statistics and econometrics; through guided research projects deals with various methodological data issues such as selection bias, endogeneity and multiple hypothesis testing.
