Students will explore the nature and impact of CCN, and consider the context of individual and community needs and preferences in supporting functional communication. Students will be introduced to and explore a number of high and low-tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices and methods. They will learn about trialling, evaluating, prescribing and supporting sustained use of AAC. This unit will also support students to understand their role in supporting people with CCN within the broader picture of services and supports, including in relation to positive behaviour support and safeguarding. A simulated placement (on-campus) will enable to students to apply their learning and practice their skills in a supported environment.
