Content

This unit will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of common communication disorders and their impact on individuals, families, and communities. Students will work closely with peers on detailed case studies that explore assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and advocacy in relation to developmental and acquired disorders of speech and language, cognitive-communicative disability, and disorders of fluency and voice. Students will critically reflect on perspectives of communication difference versus disorder and will be supported to consider person, family and community centred practice within the context of service and funding models, evidence and ethical principles. Student learning will be supported with teaching, practical demonstration and application, and students will have the opportunity to work with interdisciplinary peers.
