Study commitment | Students will on average spend 150 hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site. |

Content
In this unit, students will develop foundational knowledge about speech pathology, the role of speech pathologists, and the scope of practice of this profession. Topics will include professional practice standards and ethical guidelines, and core professional ways of working in speech pathology, including person, family and community centred practice principles, cultural awareness and responsiveness, inclusive practice frameworks, interprofessional practice, and evidence-based practice principles. Students will be supported to consider communication and swallowing disability from a human rights perspective to inform advocacy as speech pathologists. Students will attend in-practice observations to support their understanding of speech pathology practice, working with clients and working with other professionals.
