Content

This unit provides students with an opportunity to understand themselves as future clinicians (including their own culture, biases, privilege, beliefs and self-management), how this applies to working with clients (providing dietary assessment and management considering the complex interplay between medical, dietary, social, psycological and cultural factors) and then being able to apply these skills in a multidisciplinary team. All of these interactions and learnings are underpinned by evidence-based practice. Emphasis is placed on cultivating evidence-based decision-making skills, research skills, and applying critical thinking relevant to the continuum of dietetic practice. The unit goes beyond theory, supporting students to integrate and apply food literacy skills in the context of clients’ priorities, and to work interprofessionally to meet the health needs of people from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
