Study commitment | Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site. |

In-person attendance requirements | Students are required to attend and participate in a scheduled on-campus intensive at either Burwood or Geelong Waurn Ponds campus (please refer to unit site for more information). Intensives are typically delivered up to 5 days. Domestic students must attend the intensives on-campus at Deakin University. International students must attend the intensives either on campus at Deakin University, Australia or at Universiti Sains Malaysia. |
Note: | Students enrol in the unit online however there are significant on campus requirements. International students who wish to complete intensives in person are recommended to attend all intensives in Trimester 3 and refer to your course handbook for visa requirements under ‘Additional Course Information’ section. Deakin University is not obligated to provide any students with a COE (confirmation of enrolment) to facilitate a student visa application. |
Content
There are many factors that influence the design of an athlete’s training plan. This unit will address the wide range of factors that a coach needs to consider. Topics will include nutrition and recovery strategies, understanding the rehabilitation process of an injured athlete, fitness testing, legal and ethical issues including supplement strategies that work within the ‘Sport Integrity Australia’, and facility design. On completion of this unit, students will be able to use the evidence around an array of factors that must be considered in a conditioning program in their professional practice.

- Must pass Assessment task 3 Athlete Assessment and Report; completed Week 11 during on-campus Trimester 3 intensive
