Content
This unit support students to understand and apply concepts relevant to Clinical Governance, as it relates to Clinical Psychology Practice. Students will learn that clinical governance is a system of accountability for safety and quality healthcare, which encompasses safe and effective clinical psychological assessment and treatment. Students will develop their knowledge of the application of clinical governance in all clinical psychology occupational settings including Private Psychology Practice environments. Key underpinning policy and practice frameworks that will be explored and applied include the National Model Clinical Governance Framework, the National Clinical Governance Standard (National Standards of Quality in Health Services Standards), The APS Private Practice Management Standards (APS PPMS v. 3, 2018) and the and the Australian National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce. A key aim of this unit is to build student competence in policies and procedures as practical tools necessary to plan, communicate and implement comprehensive practice management. Students will also consider and critique Clinical Governance frameworks as they apply to culturally safe and sensitive mental health practice with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands people such as the Social Emotional Well Being (SEWB) model (Gee et al., 2014).
