Content
This unit will expand the practitioner‘s knowledge of pharmacological principles and management of medicines focusing upon broad medication classes and their potential for adverse interactions, effects, and events. The relationship between symptoms, medication effects and risk management for patients requiring prescription and administration of medicines in the paramedical primary care setting are explored. Students will evaluate the appropriate use of non-pharmacological and therapeutic medicines options, including patient-centred considerations and risk mitigation strategies, in order to develop a collaborative therapeutic plan. The medico-legal, safety, and adverse event reporting responsibilities of the prescribing practitioner are also discussed.
