Content
This unit orientates preservice teachers to teaching, the teaching profession and Professional Experience in schools and other educational settings. Students will analyse teaching and learning within the broader purposes of schooling and the education system, including a consideration of strategies for involving parents/carers in the educative process. Further, students will be required to critically assess the impact of globalisation on education and investigate how these discourses shape the practices of teachers in local, state and national contexts.
Students will examine the professional, ethical and legal frameworks for teachers including the Australian Graduate Teacher Standards. Students will engage critically with teaching and teacher practices by examining their personal beliefs and assumptions of teaching and learning and identify how these ideas inform their emerging applied learning pedagogy(s).
This unit will introduce students to planning for professional learning which will support their continued building of this throughout the course.
