Study commitment

Contact hours will vary based on the experience. Experiences are largely program-based. They will generally comprise work integrated learning (WIL)-related contact hours (approximately 100-120 hours), plus approximately 30-50 hours for reflection and assessment. Some experiences may require additional compulsory orientation events or briefings. Students must attend and participate in these activities on the scheduled days. Students will be provided clearer guidelines, based on the program, when applying.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Students must attend and participate in these activities on the scheduled days, as outlined in their experience agreement.

In-person attendance requirements

100-120 (approx.) practical experience hours with an approved host organisation

Note:

All students must complete the following three-step internship application process to enrol in the unit: 

  • Prepare: Complete the online ArtsEd Pre-Internship Program 
  • Secure: Identify, research and contact potential host organisations. Negotiate your tasks, goals, hours, and supervision arrangements 
  • Register: Apply online to have your internship approved. Students cannot commence their internship or enrol in this unit until they have applied online and received approval from the Faculty of Arts and Education Work Integrated Learning (WIL) team* 

*Please note: domestic internship applications need to be registered at least two weeks before commencing an internship. Overseas internships need to be registered at least 4 weeks before commencing an internship. Students will have the best success if they commence their research, planning and preparation early.

This unit allows you to immerse yourself in a practical learning experience that is authentic to your chosen field of study and complements your personal and professional development goals. Whether you want to build a more empathetic understanding of diverse communities and cultures or have the opportunity to expand your professional and peer networks by being able to connect with other motivated problem-solvers, change-makers and creatives, there are a range of opportunities available. Options include study tours, global experiential learning programs, volunteering opportunities with community organisations, and team-based collaborative projects for clients. You will evaluate your experience through a progressive assessment process, which is designed to help you critically reflect on the ways in which the experience has enhanced your employability and your capacity to contribute responsibly, inclusively and impactfully to the communities in which you live and work.
