Content
This unit explores the growing problem of cybercrime. Organisations of all sizes and sectors face acute problems of cyber victimisation and compromise. Individuals, communities and whole government agencies are increasingly victim to cyber-enabled crimes (such as frauds, harassment and scams) and cyber-dependent crimes (such as data theft, hacking, and ransomware). The unit will examine the concept of cybercrime, its relationship with other crime types, and applications of criminological theory to cybercrimes. The unit will unpack what is currently known about cyber offenders across a broad array of crime types as well as the dynamics of cyber-victimisation in Australia and globally. In addition, the unit addresses challenges in preventing and responding to cybercrime, the intersections between criminal justice and cyber security, and what strategies or policies are required over the medium- and long-term to best manage the problem of cybercrime
