Content
This unit explores The Practice of Justice. What are the key agencies, services, and government departments that are responsible for criminal justice, and how do they implement policy? How do individuals within key agencies, services, and government departments conduct their work, and what are the implications for wider understandings and expectations of justice? This unit considers a wide range of justice-related settings, including law enforcement, the courts, and corrections, in addition to services and organisations that support victims of crime, offenders, and manage broader issues of crime and harm. What shapes the practice of those responsible for key justice-related decisions? How do considerations such as resourcing, time limitations, contradictory policy directions and competing agendas, political pressures, public expectations, and evolving understanding of the causes and effects of crime inform frontline decision-making? This unit will explore these questions in-depth and unpack their implications for the practice and provision of justice.
