Overview
Damian began his career in the field of Information Systems Auditing at KPMG. Whilst this could have been the beginning of a classic commerce graduate’s career trajectory, he went on to work in leadership roles in organisations such as Barwon Health and Epworth Healthcare for over twenty years. Today, Damian is a Partner for the Health, Ageing and Human Services area of KPMG Management Consulting.

Career path and highlights
When asked about the type of career he wished to pursue, Damian reflects that he ‘always had a passion for leadership roles and while my career path has been somewhat unorthodox, I’ve never lost sight of that ultimate goal’.
In Damian’s time at Barwon Health, he held the position of Chief Information Officer as well as General Manager, Surgical Services. These opportunities arose somewhat ‘unexpectedly’ for Damian.
‘It is impossible to completely control the future in the way you'd prefer. My simple philosophy is to be the best you can be in your current role and that will prepare you well for the opportunities that will arise in the future - in many cases unexpectedly’, says Damian.
Damian later went on to work at Epworth Healthcare in multiple leadership roles. Through this experience he says he was ‘fortunate to see firsthand the amazing skills of our healthcare workers and the influence their work has on people’s lives’.
Damian has had a long and fruitful relationship with Deakin. This began with his Bachelor of Commerce in 1987, which assisted him in building a strong social network on which he still relies on today. In 1998, Damian made the decision to study a Master of Business Administration, which gave him the opportunity to gain further insight on his professional experience. More recently, Damian was appointed as Adjunct Professor – Faculty of Business and Law, where he continues to share his years of knowledge and experience with Deakin students.
In March 2020, Damian was appointed Partner at the Health, Ageing and Human Services area of KPMG Management Consulting.
When asked if he has any advice for Deakin graduates, Damian says ‘Don’t worry too much about the future. Just focus on being the best colleague you can be today and establish a solid network of great relationships, which you will utilise more and more as your career progresses’.
