School outreach program

Supporting students to reach their full potential

The Deakin Engagement and Access Program (DEAP) school outreach program inspires, instils self-confidence and creates equal opportunities for all secondary school students. The program breaks down common barriers to education and encourages students to have a positive outlook on their future.

Programs designed to inspire

Our exciting range of engagement and access programs have been designed to be year-level appropriate, creative, engaging, and adaptable to the demands of the future of work. The programs encourage students to explore their interests, discover pathway options and learn about career opportunities to help them confidently navigate their final years of high school. All of our activities and workshops aim to support the development of students' self-confidence and self-efficacy, leaving them with a strong belief that they have control over their future.

Year 9

At the beginning of the DEAP journey, we offer an inspiring program that builds important knowledge about the changing world of work and supports students to lead career conversations with working professionals to spark career exploration and navigation of future pathways.

Access for Success Mentoring Program

Access for Success Mentoring Program

Our program provides Year 11 and 12 students from partnering schools with university-level peer mentoring and academic support from our team of mentors and role models, to help them through their final years of secondary school and transition into university with confidence.

Applications are now closed and will reopen in 2023.

Looking back at what I learned has made me feel more confident with myself and stronger than ever. If it wasn’t for the Deakin experience, I wouldn’t know what would’ve happened when future job interviews occurred. If there was one word that could describe that entire day for me, it would definitely be life-changing.

Pathways that look beyond their ATAR

DEAP students can apply for courses through the Deakin Regional Access Scheme and Indigenous Access Scheme. We look beyond your ATAR at the skills, experience and achievements that make you unique and prepare you for university, meaning you could receive an early, conditional offer sooner than your peers.
