Deakin University Art Gallery welcomes exhibition from Hannah Quinlivan
Media releaseDeakin University Art Gallery's latest exhibition explores the concept of movement through the works of contemporary artist Hannah Quinlivan.
Opening this Wednesday, September 13, Hannah Quinlivan: Travelling Light showcases recent works based on a series of dance, movement, sound and sculptural urban interventions developed by the Australian artist in Berlin earlier this year.
Ms Quinlivan said her latest collection was inspired by movement.
"The question of movement seems to haunt our times - some move freely while others are forced to stand still, creating new types of tension," she said.
"Drawing moves between materials like steel, the body and voice and working in collaboration with artists, classically-trained vocalists and dancers, my exhibition explores the notion of adaptation in a time of constant motion."
Deakin University Art Gallery Manager Leanne Willis said this Wednesday's exhibition launch will also feature a powerful collaboration between Ms Quinlivan and vocalists Louise Keast and Shikara Ringdahl.
"After the exhibition is launched by arts writer Zara Sigglekow, there will be two special auditory drawing performances," Ms Willis said.
"These performances of Transition, a new work by Hannah Quinlivan, will be held one night only from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, and again from 7.30pm to 8.00pm – so do not miss these very moving events."
Ms Quinlivan has been represented in a number of collections including the National Gallery of Australia, The Australian High Commission (Singapore), the Deakin University Art Collection, KPMG Art Collection and various private collections.
Since graduating from ANU School of Art & Design as Dux with first class honours in 2013, she has exhibited in numerous group and individual shows across the world in countries such as England, Germany, Japan, China, Singapore and the United States.
This year, Ms Quinlivan's work has been included in Art Central in Hong Kong, she has created an installation at Colorado State University and exhibited another major work Anatomy of a Drawing at Canberra Museum and Art Gallery.
Hannah Quinlivan: Travelling Light will be open from Wednesday, September 13, to Friday, October 20, at the Deakin University Art Gallery, located at building FA, Melbourne Burwood Campus, 221 Burwood Highway, Burwood.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free.
